Welcome
January Guild Meeting
Our January Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 17th at 6:00 P.M. We meet downstairs at Rockler, 2553 S Colorado Blvd., Denver
If you are new to the Guild, or visiting for the first time, here is what to expect: At the bottom of the stairs will be a sign in table. Please stop by to let us know you are here. From 6:00 - 6:30 is a social time, there will be coffee and snacks available. This is a good time to visit our library table and you might want to bring a few bucks to buy some tickets for our raffle - we generally have 4-5 items such as tools or wood to raffle off. At 6:30 our President will call the meeting to order. We usually have a few announcements, then we will go over the "Show and Tell" items brought in by our members. We will take a short break to allow voting on the show and tell, and after the break will come the main presentation. This month we have James Cole, a chair maker from Colorado Springs. He has exhibited at the Cherry Creek Arts festival and many other fine shows. He is currently teaching a class for the Guild on how to build his artistic laminated rocker.
After the presentation, we will announce the winner of the show and tell, and draw winners for our raffle.
Woodworking show
The Guild had a booth at the annual Woodworking Show at the Denver Merchandise mart. Many thanks to all the members who volunteered their time and expertise working the booth, and doing demonstrations. We had 25 new members join during this weekend!
November Meeting Recap
Our November featured Charles Milliser. He is a professional wood carver who works in both bas relief and figure carving. He specializes in turning large pieces of sculpture into artfully rendered figures, and his work has been commissioned all oner the country. He spoke about his methods, tools and some of how he designs pieces. He spoke on how he can give illusions of depth using colors, even on pieces with low relief. Charles is also teaching some carving classes for the Guild.
